I left with two suitcases. Here's what I know now.
The day I moved abroad, I owned exactly two suitcases of things worth keeping. One held clothes for three climates. The other held documents: originals, copies, apostilles, and a folder of printouts I'd been told I would never need. I needed every one of them.
Nobody warns you that moving abroad is two different projects wearing one name. There's the dream: the light in a new city, the language in your ears, the version of you that only exists somewhere else. Then there's the file folder: visas, registrations, bank accounts that won't open without an address, and an address you can't get without a bank account.
I run this site for both projects. The dream deserves better than becoming a cautionary tale about the folder.
A journal of the real thing: guides written from receipts, not press trips. The Swiss residence permit, step by step. Greek citizenship by descent, with the actual timeline. The first ninety days in a new country, sequenced so nothing bites you later.
Jersey born, Greek and Italian blooded, Zürich based. I've crossed as a performer, a builder, and finally as a resident. The guest book for other travelers' stories opens this year; your testimonial slot is already waiting.
